Program: Men's Short - FRI OCTOBER 26 2001
PAUL MARTINI'S COMMENTARY: Takeshi Honda

18:38 MST He will skate first here tonight, Takeshi is getting some last words from his coach, Doug Leigh
18:38 MST He is called to take the ice
18:38 MST Slowly to position
18:38 MST Music is Sing, sing ,sing
18:39 MST He opens with a HUGE 4 toe 3 toe combination!!!!
18:39 MST What a start to the event!!!!!
18:39 MST Hand down on the landing of the 3 Axel
18:39 MST Sit sit spin is ok, back half a little slower than the front half
18:40 MST And then he falls, big splash on the 3 lutz!!
18:40 MST footwork is ok and flying spin is ok
18:41 MST Combo spin is ok, could use some speed
18:41 MST Cirucular footwork is light and quick and it closes the program
18:41 MST Well, how often have we seen a performance like this
18:42 MST He nails the most difficult element, 4/3 combo and then has the other two jumps in the program get away from him
18:42 MST The music choice is good for him, he has lots of energy in it's delivery
18:43 MST This is a great perfomance to build on. He takes the confidence of knowing the quad is there and now has to reel in the rest of the ump content in the performance
18:43 MST He should pay some attention to his spins as they could get better
18:44 MST Marks REQ: 5.0 to 5.1 PRE: 5.3 to 5.6

Program: Men's Free - SAT OCTOBER 27 2001
PAUL MARTINI'S COMMENTARY: Takeshi Honda

20:57 MST He is currently 3rd, Takeshi comes out to his start position
20:58 MST Let's see if his quad is as good tonight as last night
20:58 MST setting up....
20:58 MST for a strong opening 3 flip
20:58 MST gathering speed again....
20:59 MST two footed landing on the quad toe
20:59 MST 3 salchow is ok
21:00 MST goes for the 3/3 combo, gets the axel done but can't hold onto the landing of the 3 toe
21:00 MST spread eagle into a wonderful 3 axel, very nice element!!!!
21:01 MST 3 loop is good
21:01 MST With a minute to go, he needs to pick it up a little speed wise
21:02 MST barely hangs onto the landing of a 3 lutz.
21:02 MST footwork section has good speed and engergizes the crowd
21:02 MST deathdrop back sit closes the program
21:03 MST Although he did not hit the quad tonight, this performance combined with his short of last night = a decent competition
21:04 MST he has some excellent elements out there tonight. I don't know if this program is as effective as his long, but maybe if it is skated to it's potential, it will play better for me
21:05 MST Marks TECH: 5.4 to 5.7 PRE: 5.5 to 5.8 Nice marks and he is the current leader

PAUL MARTINI'S COMMENTARY

16:15 EST Hello Again Everyone!!!!!
16:15 EST The men are on the ice and I am happy to report that Alexie is on the ice.
16:17 EST It would appear that Ivan ande Evgeni have given this skate a miss.
16:18 EST With only four men out there, there is lots of room for everyone
16:18 EST The body language from the four of them is one of a rather relaxed feel
16:19 EST Nobody getting into anything too quickly as the ice is still rather wet
16:20 EST Music starting, Tim first, A program = Henry IV
16:20 EST really coasting.....3 sal
16:21 EST sorry Henry V
16:21 EST 3 toe from Tim
16:22 EST 3 loop-3loop from Tim
16:23 EST Having sat here for most of today, I sence a very calculated approach from everyone regarding this practise day.
16:23 EST Having sat here for most of today, I sence a very calculated approach from everyone regarding this practise day.
16:24 EST I personally have never done 3 elegible programs in 2 days, but many of these skaters have and they appear to know just how much they can or can't push it out here on practice
16:24 EST 3 loop from Tim
16:25 EST He has done some of the content in this program, but really just a notch above a walk through
16:25 EST Music for Dinev is now playing
16:25 EST big 2 axel from Todd
16:26 EST huge 3 axel from Alexei
16:26 EST good 3 axel from Todd
16:28 EST big 3 lutz from Todd
16:28 EST 4 toe, 3 toe, 3 loop from Alexei!!!!!!!
16:28 EST Amazing!!!!!!
16:29 EST It is not often you see a 4 -3-3 combination!!1
16:29 EST 3 axel- 3 toe from Tim
16:29 EST Next music if for Takeshi
16:30 EST Freeskate B = Concerto de Aranjeuz
16:30 EST big 3 flip
16:31 EST Alexei has his guards in his hand and now bows. He is out of here.
16:31 EST 4 sal - 3 toe from Tim
16:31 EST and then a quad sal from Takeshi with his music
16:32 EST If you are not getting our photos, please close out of the live window and come back in. Little tech glitch.
16:33 EST good 3 axel from Takeshi
16:33 EST Todd just did a 3 toe that had the look of quad, but didn't happen
16:33 EST 3 lutz from Takeshi
16:34 EST another 3 toe from Todd
16:34 EST He is having trouble pulling the trigger on it
16:35 EST Takeshi finished.
16:35 EST Todd tried 4 and fell
16:36 EST setting up again.....and does a 3
16:36 EST 3 toe from Takeshi
16:37 EST Tim spending some time working on some spins
16:37 EST Todd just popped the toe completely and is getting frustrated
16:37 EST Tim finished, quad toe from Takeshi
16:37 EST Todd setting up again....and another 3
16:38 EST Only Takeshi and Todd left on the ice
16:39 EST Todd finally nails the 4 toe!!!!! Very nice jump!!!!
16:40 EST Takeshi is finished..... Only Todd on the ice and he just had a hard fall on yet another 4 attempt..... big OOOOOOHHHHHH from the audience
16:41 EST Todd setting yup again.......
16:41 EST another 3
16:42 EST A little strange to have only Todd on the ice while Yagudins music is playing
16:43 EST Todd attempts yet another...... another 3
16:43 EST He seems determined to hit one more quad before he leaves this ice
16:45 EST Todd still gently coasting around the ice, getting his head around this task, but his A program music is about to begin....1492
16:46 EST setting up......tries the quad and has a hard fall
16:46 EST that one looked like it hurt
16:47 EST 3 axel - 2 toe is very good
16:48 EST his face said he wanted a 3 -3
16:48 EST misses the 3 lutz, doubles it
16:48 EST Slow section
16:49 EST Hand down on the second triple axel
16:50 EST He has pushed the entire program through
16:50 EST But he has a look about him that says, Not Pleased
16:51 EST Todd hits the 3 lutz that he missed in the program
16:51 EST my hunch is that was the final jump...and it certainly will be as the session is over.
16:53 EST We will now have a short break while the ice is redone for the pairs... Be back in about 10.

Program: Men's Short - FRI DECEMBER 14 2001
PAUL MARTINI'S COMMENTARY: Takeshi Honda

15:08 EST Takeshi is next... will we see our first quad of the event?
15:08 EST Music begins...
15:08 EST Combo is the first element.. gathering speed..
15:09 EST Excellent 4 toe - 3 toe combo!!!!!
15:09 EST steps out of the landing of the 3 Axel
15:09 EST combo spin is ok.... could use more speed.. not in Todds league
15:10 EST footwork has good speed
15:10 EST 3 lutz is good.
15:10 EST doing a good job of keeping pace with his music....Don Quixote
15:11 EST circular step is fine.... final spin is ok
15:11 EST Well... some brilliance..... some error
15:12 EST The jump combo was excellent.....unfortunately the 3 Axel had a bad lean and there was no way for him to save it
15:13 EST Marks: REQ: 5.2 to 5.5 Crowd moans PRE: 5.6 to 5.8 and he moves into the lead ahead of Todd

Program: MENS FREE A

20:58 EST Takeshi, in 4th place after the short, is called to the ice
20:58 EST Rhapsodia Cubana is the music
20:58 EST setting up......
20:58 EST excellent 3 flip to open!!
20:58 EST gathering speed again....
20:59 EST good 4 toe!!!
20:59 EST and then a 2 salchow that he wanted to be a quad
20:59 EST little footwork section
21:00 EST very solid 3 axel - 3 toe combo!!!!!
21:01 EST 3 axel out of spread eagle.. very well done.. he missed that earlier today
21:01 EST 3 loop is good, little tight on the landing
21:01 EST combo spin has good speed and solid positions
21:02 EST and then he flips out of a triple lutz... almost looked like he approached is a bit too casually
21:02 EST quick footwork section
21:02 EST deathdrop into back sit for the final element
21:03 EST A better skate than Todd techinically.... maybe, likely viewed that way by the panel... we did get a quad here, but his spins are not in the same league as those of Todd
21:04 EST Todd was certainly the more emotionally grabbing performance... but this too was musical with solid interpretation
21:05 EST Marks TECH: 5.5 to 5.7 PRE: 5.5 to 5.8 and he is currently in second place behind Todd
